I have always believed in providing a professional yet fun approach to helping students discover their musical abilities. My lessons integrated musicianship, performance, theory, music history, and harnessing the creativity within us. I also spent a lot of lesson time teaching my students how to practice. The reality is that despite well-written assignment sheets and clear conversations about expectations, once the student leaves the studio, they are on their own for the next 167 hours.
As a practice coach, I will come into your home every day for a week and guide you and your child through efficient home practice strategies. I will be supporting your child's teacher so that lesson time will be more productive. Through observation and guided questions, I will help your child improve their listening, goal-setting, and evaluation skills. Think of it along the same lines as hiring a math tutor to help your child get over a particular problem area so they can be more successful in school.
SMART practice means that goals for that session must be S = Specific M = Measurable A = Achievable R = Relevant T = Timely
The goal of hiring a practice coach is to empower your child to make wise decisions during their at-home bench time, to better enable parents to support their child during the practice process, and to give teachers the chance to do what they do best -- to help your child achieve their musical potential.
I am also available to teach recreational music-making classes for adults and offer my services as an, accompanist and/or substitute teacher for studios in the Kelowna area. Please contact me to chat about possibilities!
