Hello!I’ve had a fulfilling career teaching piano lessons in Peace River, AB for over 35 years. In the summer of 2024, my piano studio will be moving to Kelowna, BC. The location will be different but I will always be passionate about helping people of all ages discover their creative abilities.
Hi, I'm Joan. I have lived in Peace River my entire life and feel a strong connection to community. I am a member of the Peace River & District Music Teachers’ Association, president of the Peace River Community Choir, can often be found in the orchestra pit for Peace Players musicals, and am a charter member (and serve on the executive) of the Alberta Piano Teachers’ Association. have a B.A. in Music from the University of Alberta, am a certified UMT (Ultimate Music Theory) teacher, and regularly attend professional development workshops and conferences which help me grow in my chosen career. I frequently contribute articles to the Alberta Piano Teachers Association News & Views and have presented rhythm workshops to other music teachers at Teachers Conventions and Music Conference Alberta. In addition to teaching music, I work as the librarian at T.A. Norris Middle School and have attended International music academies and taught English overseas during the summer months. During my free time, I enjoy reading, doing crossword puzzles, reviewing languages learned when traveling, and staying active outdoors. In 2022, I purchased a house in Ajijic, Mexico which will be used as a vacation home for my family and accommodate students of the annual Festival del Lago. |
About the StudioHere are some photos of my studio in Peace River. The grand piano will have a prominent spot in our new home in Kelowna but the house is small and not suited for a full-fledged studio so my intention is to travel to people's homes and community centres.
