I’ve been teaching piano lessons in Peace River for over 35 years and am passionate about helping people of all ages discover their creative abilities.
Hi, I'm Joan. I have lived in Peace River my entire life and feel a strong connection to community. I am a member of the Peace River & District Music Teachers’ Association, president of the Peace River Community Choir, can often be found in the orchestra pit for Peace Players musicals, and am a charter member (and serve on the executive) of the Alberta Piano Teachers’ Association. have a B.A. in Music from the University of Alberta, am a certified UMT (Ultimate Music Theory) teacher, and regularly attend professional development workshops and conferences which help me grow in my chosen career.
I frequently contribute articles to the Alberta Piano Teachers Association News & Views and have presented rhythm workshops to other music teachers at Teachers Conventions and Music Conference Alberta. In addition to teaching music, I work as the librarian at T.A. Norris Middle School and sometimes teach English overseas or attend music academies during the summer months.
During my free time, I enjoy reading, doing crossword puzzles, reviewing languages learned when traveling, and staying active outdoors. In 2022, I purchased a house in Ajijic, Mexico which will be used as a vacation home for my family and accommodate students of the annual Festival del Lago.
About the Studio
My studio is conveniently located on the north end of Peace River, the second house after the ball diamonds as you head north on River Road. Park on the street or on the parking pad out front, leave your worries at the door, and come inside where we will discover the joy of making music together. Welcome!
