Chatting with colleagues at an APTA Conference

Hello!I had a fulfilling career teaching piano lessons in Peace River, AB for over 35 years before moving to Kelowna, BC in 2024. I will always be passionate about helping people of all ages discover their creative abilities and look forward to helping them reach their potential.
Hi, I'm Joan. During my time in Peace River, I was a member of the Peace River & District Music Teachers’ Association, president of the Peace River Community Choir, and could often be found in the orchestra pit for Peace Players musicals. I served on the executive of the Alberta Piano Teachers Association for many years and intend to keep my membership active as part of the Okanagan APTA group. I have a B.A. in Music from the University of Alberta, am a certified UMT (Ultimate Music Theory) teacher, and enjoy attending professional development workshops and conferences to help me grow in my chosen career. I have presented rhythm workshops and webinars to other music teachers at Teachers Conventions, Music Conference Alberta, and APTA. When not in my studio or working as a school librarian, I attended International music academies and taught English overseas during the summer months. During our free time, my husband and I enjoy reading, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, and staying active outdoors. We are learning Spanish so we can better immerse ourselves in local culture while at our vacation home in Ajijic, Mexico. |
About the StudioHere are some photos of my former studio in Peace River. The grand piano has a prominent spot in our new home in Kelowna but the house is not suited for a full-fledged studio so my intention is to travel to people's homes and community centres.
